Google Chrome Extensions are being bought and repurposed with malware

As reported in OMGChrome some Chrome extensions are being bought and repurposed to serve to their existing users malware and false ads. This is disappointing that Google let this happen, but that is the price we pay for an open marketplace. An open marketplace can be abused, and a closed one may be too monitored. Is this the price we must be for having an “open” marketplace where companies aren’t responsible for lying to their customers. What more important, a controlled marketplace, or an open one?
